Strategic investment by the Brazilian multinational in expansion and modernization will make it possible to double the production capacity of the unit located in Medellín
As part of its expansion and consolidation strategy in Latin America, on November 22 Duas Rodas will inaugurate the new production facilities in Colombia. The investment will allow a doubling of production capacity at the Colombian unit. Duas Rodas is a multinational Brazilian company with over 93 years of experience in the global food and beverage market. It specializes in flavors, extracts and dehydrated products, condiments and additives and ingredients for ice cream and confectionery.
With more than 2,000 m² of constructed area in the metropolitan area of Medellín, in an industrial condominium in the municipality of La Estrella, the new facilities in Colombia were designed to unify and optimize all sectors, with an expansion of the manufacturing areas, warehouse and distribution sectors, as well as the areas focused on financial administrative activities and research and development laboratories.
Besides a physical expansions, Duas Rodas has also invested in the automation of machines and equipment, and in the acquisition of more modern machines with greater productivity. The new plant was structured within the Lean Manufacturing concept, with the application of the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) tool, promoting the optimization of layouts and processes, with the objective of improving and speeding the flow of logistics and production, increasing the competitiveness of products and reducing the required delivery time.
The facilities were also designed and executed within concepts to meet the requirements for the international FSSC 22000 certification for food security.

In recent years, the Brazilian multinational has made significant investments in its units abroad, with the inauguration of new and extensive facilities in its manufacturing units in Argentina (2015), Chile (2017) and in the duplication of capacity in Mexico, at the beginning this year.
DIVERSIFIED PRODUCTION
The unit currently produces liquid and powdered flavors, powdered fruits, clouding agents, and powder blends and colorants for meat products.
With the expansion of the industrial park and the incorporation of new technologies, the company will launch a complete line of emulsions for beverages and will start to manufacture locally products such as emulsifier pastes, toppings, fillings and yogurt preparations.

In addition, the unit’s strategy will also include the expansion of service to the markets of other neighboring countries, such as Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean, for example,” adds Rosemeri Francener, Director of International Business.
